Great party in Guildford last week! I went along to the Guildford Action 30th Anniversary celebrations held in the centre of town last Thursday night. I went with a couple of different hats on! Firstly the Travel2Give scheme raising money for the charity was launched. I talked to plenty of people about how simple the scheme is and how it can help with fundraising. Guildford Action also kindly arranged for my leaflet to be printed on the flip-side of the article written by Bob Crooks, Chair of the Board of Trustees. So this meant that everyone picked up and (hopefully!) read about the scheme. Our speaker on the night was the Chief Executive of Shelter, Campbell Robb. Guildford Action is a great and very caring organisation, and well worth supporting.
I was also there in my role as President of Soroptimist International of Guildford and District. As a club, we’ve been supporting Guildford Action for a few years now. We provide clothing for the homeless, bedding and other household items for the families, books and games for the day centre and a soup kitchen on Saturdays during the winter.
The Travel2Give scheme is really so simple – the charity’s supporters phone or email me, tell me what kind of holiday they want and how much they want to spend. I then research it, and call or email back with prices – at the same time telling them how much they will raise for the charity when they confirm the booking. That’s it, very simple and effective way of raising money – all ATOL protected as well. It’s money you would have spent anyway on a holiday, so why not spend it to do a world of good!
