According to the World Wildlife Fund, there are lots of species of mammals, reptiles and birds that are endangered. How can the travel industry help? Various of my suppliers/tour operators have tours to areas that have endangered species. This brings welcome income to the areas so that conservation work can continue and the local population can get involved. Sustainable tourism is definitely a buzzword this year. It can provide authentic tourist experiences that celebrate and conserve heritage and culture. Additionally it can create socio-economic benefits for communities through employment and income earning opportunities. This is from the Travel Foundation. It’s time to help the world with your next holiday!
The Jane Goodall Foundation has worked over the past 40 years has worked to foster deeper understanding of great apes and provide support for the communities and other animals who share their natural habitats. The Foundation has partnered with one of the tour operators we deal with (G Adventures) to create holidays where you can experience the breath-taking wildlife who share our environments. Try a 12-day tour through Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda. In the Masai Mara, you’ll embark on incredible wildlife safari drives to spot big cats (cheetahs, leopards, and lions) with opportunities to visit a Masai village and learn about this nomadic culture. Or an 8 day adventure in Borneo, time spent marvelling at nature’s glory on Libaran Island, close encounters with orangutans at a rehabilitation centre, prowling the streets of Kota Kinabalu by night, and otherworldly wonders in the jungle. Borneo has it all, and in east Sabah, it’s all close at hand.
