Martin Luther King trail

21 January is Martin Luther King Day in 2019.  It’s celebrated on the nearest Monday to his birthday.  If you’re travelling to the Deep South of the USA, you can’t help but follow his legacy.  Start in Atlanta – his birthplace and now also home to The King Center where his (and his wife’s) tomb are located.

Then move onto Montgomery where he preached – outside the church is this crossing, commemorating the feet of those that marched from Selma

Finally move onto Memphis, where he died at the Lorraine Motel.  This location is now the National Civil Rights Museum

All in all, a fascinating glimpse into the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s.  Very moving as well as informative.
