- The islands of the Cote d’Azur – TBH I didn’t know of these, but probably best for a day trip from resorts such as Nice or Toulon.
- Le Marche (Italy)
- Malawi – conservation efforts have boosted animal populations hit hard by poachers. Visit to see the Big Five in Majete Wildlife Reserve.
- Oviedo and more (Spain)
- Quebec – the Province as well as the city. Include Montreal in your itinerary.
- Tasmania
- Toronto – for baseball, ice-hockey and more sport. Plus get to the top of the CN Tower for incredible views.
- Jordan – history everywhere you look! Must-sees include Petra, live like a Bedouin in the desert, and explore ancient ruins in Amman.
- Kythnos, Greece (or any other quieter, less well-known island)
- Dublin
- Girona (Spain)
- Rotterdam
- Tallinn (Estonia)
- Chemnitz (Germany) – one of the European Cities of Culture for 2025
- Ghana
- Albania – either a city break to Tirana or to one of the coastal resorts.

Where will you choose? I’ve visited a few of these. Loved the colourful canal-side buildings in Copenhagen, Toronto felt familiar with M&S in the shopping centre and everywhere a warm welcome, Budapest at night along the Danube, Rotterdam has some great museums and restaurants, even Dublin on a rainy Sunday had something special!
